Scuba Regulator Inspections vs. Overhauls
Keeping Your Dive Gear Safe & Reliable
Not sure if you need a regulator inspection or a full overhaul? Here’s what every diver should know:
What Is a Regulator Inspection?
A regulator inspection is a routine safety check. Our technician will:
- Visually examine hoses, mouthpiece, and connections for any signs of wear or damage
- Test the regulator’s breathing and overall function
- Check for leaks or obvious issues
- Confirm your regulator is ready and safe for your next dive
No parts are taken apart during an inspection.
We recommend an inspection once or twice a year—especially before a dive trip or if your gear has been in storage.
What Is a Regulator Overhaul?
A regulator overhaul is a deep, comprehensive service. Our technician will:
- Completely disassemble your regulator
- Clean all internal parts and remove any corrosion or debris
- Replace worn parts (like O-rings, filters, and seats) with new, manufacturer-approved components
- Reassemble and tune your regulator to factory standards
- Perform a final performance and safety test
Overhauls should be done every 1–2 years, or as your manufacturer recommends—even if your regulator seems fine.
Quick Comparison
| Service | What’s Done | How Often |
|---|---|---|
| Inspection | Visual & functional safety check | 1–2 times/year |
| Overhaul | Full disassembly, cleaning, parts replaced, reassembly | Every 1–2 years |
Why Both Matter
- Inspections catch small issues before they become big problems, keeping you safe between dives.
- Overhauls protect your equipment’s performance and reliability for the long haul.
BCD (Buoyancy Compensator Device) Inspections
Keep Your Buoyancy Gear Safe & Reliable
Your BCD is essential for safe, comfortable dives. Regular inspections help you avoid surprises underwater and keep your equipment in peak condition.
What’s Included in a BCD Inspection?
Our technician will:
- Visually inspect the bladder, seams, and straps for tears, wear, or damage
- Check buckles, zippers, and Velcro to ensure secure operation
- Test inflator and deflator mechanisms for smooth, reliable function
- Fully inflate the BCD and monitor for leaks or slow deflation
- Inspect and test all dump valves for proper release and sealing
- Examine the low-pressure inflator hose and connections for cracks, leaks, or corrosion
How Often Should You Schedule a BCD Inspection?
- At least once per year
- Before any dive trip
- After long storage, or if you notice any issues
Regular inspections help catch small problems early—before they impact your safety or your dive.
Scuba Tank Visual Inspections
Keep Your Air Supply Safe
A visual inspection ensures your scuba tank is free from damage, corrosion, or defects that could compromise your safety underwater.
What’s Included in a Visual Inspection?
Our technician will:
- Remove the tank valve and inspect inside for rust, corrosion, or contaminants
- Check the exterior for dents, deep scratches, or other signs of damage
- Inspect the tank neck and threads for cracks or wear
- Examine the valve for proper function and cleanliness
- Apply a new inspection sticker if the tank passes all checks
How often?
- Annually—visual inspections are required every year by most dive shops and fill stations

Scuba Tank Hydrostatic Testing
Ensure Your Tank’s Structural Integrity
Hydrostatic testing checks your scuba tank’s ability to safely hold high-pressure air, confirming the tank’s strength and safety for continued use.
What’s Included in Hydrostatic Testing?
A certified technician will:
- Fill the tank with water and pressurize it well above normal operating pressure
- Measure the tank’s expansion to ensure it stays within safe limits
- Check for leaks, bulges, or permanent expansion
- Reinstall the valve and dry the tank after passing the test
- Stamp the new hydro date on your tank and apply a new sticker
How often?
- Every 5 years—required by law in the U.S. and most other countries

- Replace the battery with a manufacturer-approved replacement
- Check and replace O-rings or seals to prevent leaks
